On 9th February, the first meeting of the consortium of the Twin 4.0 project took place in Badajoz. This Kick Off Meeting was organised by Innogestiona Ambiental (Spain), partner company of the project in charge of hosting the other members of the consortium, Acta Foundation (Bulgaria), PCX Computers & Information Systems Ltd (Cyprus), Fondazione Fenice Onlus (Italy) and “George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology of Târgu Mureș (Romania).

The TWIN 4.0 project, within the framework of the Erasmus KA220-VET programme, aims to enhance the capacity of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises for the double (green-digital) transition. They will be provided with a comprehensive and flexible training package, raising awareness of the need and benefits of this transition.

The meeting focused on defining the contents, structures and key points for the final results of the project. To this end, the development of an environmental audit tool will be carried out, which will provide manufacturing SMEs to assess and control their environmental footprint in an easy and simple way. In addition, a training course will be developed to support manufacturing SMEs on the double transition process. Finally, the capacity of VET providers will be strengthened in order to offer educational services according to the needs of the labour market in the field of the double transition.

So far, the results achieved are positive. The collection and analysis of European environmental implementing legislation has been carried out and the main environmental barriers and needs faced by manufacturing SMEs in the different consortium member countries have been identified. In order to identify these needs and barriers, a series of in-depth interviews were carried out with companies from different sectors and of different sizes.
