“George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology of Târgu Mureș (UMFST) was created in September 2018 as a result of the merger of two Romanian prestigious universities in Târgu Mureș, namely University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Târgu Mureș and „Petru Maior” University of Târgu Mureș.
At present UMFST brings together the competences of the two universities that fused, being a public multicultural institution of higher education and research. It is composed of six faculties: The Faculty of Medicine, The Faculty of Dentistry, The Faculty of Pharmacy, The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, The Faculty of Sciences and Letters, and The Faculty of Economics and Law in which graduates of study programs can benefit from different levels of academic degrees: bachelor, master’s, doctoral.
In its current structure, the UMFST has more than 10 000 students and 739 teachers. International cooperation with over 100 universities from different countries had a substantial contribution to the development of scientific research.
The university is the main provider of highly qualified human resources in Mures county. UMFST has direct links with industry through the “U2B – UNIVERSITY TO BUSINESS” department which promotes the relationship between students and the economic environment, and through the Continuing Professional Training Department which offers industry short-term training courses under market conditions. These structures have proven to be important factors for the development and continuous training of industry specialists.
The link with industry is also ensured by permanent contact with the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with businesses in the area, as well as with other institutions interested in staff updating and retraining.

Fenice Foundation is home to a Training Agency, Certified by Regione Veneto, for Continuing Education, born by the joint will of civil society and Zip Consortium (1600 companies) with the aim to value one of the last green areas within the Padua territory.
Fenice manages a specialized didactic park for renewable energy representing an embryonic example of a smart city in a very peculiar peri-urban environment, between the center of the town and the 1600 firms in the Industrial District: Terranegra island. The park seeks to empower sustainable and responsible behaviours among entrepreneurs of the surrounding industrial area, local public administrators, educational institutions, associations and private citizens.
Within the Energy park, Fenice has structure called “Digital Campus”, in collaboration with the University of Padua, the Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality. The Digital Campus offers specific training on digital skills (basic and advanced) to schools, undergraduate students, companies and citizens.
Managing the park from 2005, Fondazione Fenice Onlus main endeavour is to bring together landscape environmental tutelage and research for new technologies that will act on environmental emergencies and on future development scenarios.
In 2020, Fenice Foundation has created a social Enterprise called Digital Green Jobs which manages a Digital Academy that offers certified courses on digital finance issues with the patronage of Eurocrowd and Cryptovalues.
Fenice’s main activities can be divided in 4 areas:
- Education: more than 15.000 students each year, from different grades and courses are visiting the Green Energy Park and attending didactical paths or alternating between work and study with regards to environment, connection between Green and Digital Economy with courses on robotics, drones, programming with Arduino and others
- Research: Fondazione is developing research projects funded by European Programs, such as: – Project “A+ House” (Home building automation and sustainable architecture) – Project “Vehicle to Home” (Innovative software for Smart mobility and bio-housing) – Project “Cicli Solari” (Smart mobility and renewable energy)
- Business services: Fenice organizes special consultancy activities for companies in the area aiming to offer the best solutions for business development, using the most suitable financing tools for every kind of firm: European and Regional Financing Funds, Industry 4.0 and Crowdfunding 4.
- Technical training: Fenice creates also training courses for professionals and industries, mainly focused on promoting Digital Skills and Green Economy, advanced technical skills such as: – App developer course – KNX Certification course (Software ETS Home Building Automation) – BIM Manager course – Crowdfunding “platform manager” certification course; Pyrogasification certified course; Renewable Energy sources certified course; Photovoltaic RES certified course and many others. Fenice has strategic agreements with multinational companies and every year trains professional installers for ABB, Samsung, Toshiba, Baxi and MC.
