The TWIN 4.0 environmental impact audit tool and methodology have been developed thanks to the efforts of a multidisciplinary and international team engineers, environmental consultants and auditors, IT experts, and economists from Italy, Spain, Romania, Cyprus, and Bulgaria.

The tool and the methodology are the final result of a series of research activities carried out by the consortium focused on analysing and systemising environmental regulations and standards both on EU and on national level in the partner countries with regards providing solid legal and theoretical basis for further project activities. Next, the needs of the end-users (manufacturing SMEs) were identified through a series of interviews conducted in all partner countries with SME owners, managers, head of production units, etc.

The TWIN 4.0 environmental impact tool and methodology aim to provide a comprehensive set of the most relevant environmental EU and national (in RO, BG, CY, IT and ES) regulations and standards combined with easy-to-use tools in 4 key environmental management areas: 1) Water; 2) Energy / carbon footprint; 3) Waste and 4) Chemicals management.
